Workaholics (assignment 6)

Workaholic A workaholic is a person who is addicted to work. The term generally implies that the person enjoys their work; it can also imply that they simply feel compelled to do it. There is no generally accepted medical definition of such a condition, although some forms of stress, impulse control disorder, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder can be work-related. Workaholism is not the same as working hard. Although the term workaholic usually has a negative connotation, it is sometimes used by people wishing to express their devotion to one's career in positive terms. The "work" in question is usually associated with a paying job, but it may also refer to independent pursuits such as sports, music and art. A workaholic in the negative sense is popularly characterized by a neglect of family and other social relations. Similarly, people considered to be workaholics tend to lose track of time -- voluntarily or in

Markers in an article (assignment 5) When Being Overweight Is a Health Problem

When Being Overweight Is a Health Problem Reviewed by: Mary L. Gavin, MD Diabetes and heart disease are health problems that can stem from being overweight. Being overweight can also affect a person's joints, breathing, sleep, mood, and energy levels. So being overweight can affect a person's entire quality of life. Defining Overweight When people eat more calories than they use, their bodies store the extra calories as fat. A couple of pounds of extra body fat are not a health risk for most people. But when people keep up a pattern of eating more calories than they burn, more and more fat builds up in their bodies. Eventually, the body gets to a point where the amount of body fat can harm a person's health. Doctors use the terms "overweight" or "obese" to tell if someone has a greater chance of developing weight-related health problems. As you've probably heard, more people are overweight today than ever before. The "obesity epidemic"

10 QUICK AND SIMPLE RITUALS TO LOWER YOUR STRESS LEVELS FAST by  Vera Schwaiger  |  25.11.2017       Shoulders hunched up to your ears, neck stiff and jaw clenched tight. Sound familiar? When we are stressed, our body activates our “fight or flight response” and releases hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. Your heart beats faster, and your breathing speeds up. These physiological changes often lead to headaches and tense muscles, which are the last things we need on a busy day. I knew this all too well, and I often didn’t recognize the physical signs of stress in time, so I just kept pushing on. Therefore, I began to look for rituals that would help me to catch the stress at the beginning and  learn to relax more . I often can’t do much about the external stress factors themselves, but I can choose how I react to them. HERE ARE 10 RITUALS FOR LESS STRESS AND MORE CALM 1. INVIGORATING MORNING ROUTINE I get up at 5 a.m. every day and spend the f

(To be specific: $9,400 per capita, 79 years, and 31st.) Maybe those of us in healthcare have been looking at it all wrong, for too long. Healthy lifestyle and longevity Researchers from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health  conducted a massive study  of the impact of health habits on life expectancy, using data from the well-known Nurses’ Health Study (NHS) and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study (HPFS). This means that they had data on a huge number of people over a very long period of time. The NHS included over 78,000 women and followed them from 1980 to 2014. The HPFS included over 40,000 men and followed them from 1986 to 2
